A/R follow-up FAQ
What does A/R follow-up mean?
It means checking every unpaid claim with the insurance payer and taking the next step until it is paid, corrected or closed.
How far back can you work old claims?
It depends on each payer's timely filing and appeal limits. The billing review shows which older claims can still be recovered.
Do you follow up on patient balances too?
The main focus is insurance A/R. Patient statement processes can be discussed during the consultation.
What are A/R aging buckets?
Unpaid claims grouped by how long they have been outstanding, typically 0–30, 31–60, 61–90, 91–120 and over 120 days. The older a claim gets, the harder it is to collect, which is why aging is reviewed every week.
How are underpayments caught?
Payments are compared with what each claim should have paid. Short pays are flagged and raised with the payer for reprocessing instead of being written off.
